cold = off-chain storage, basically the original way of storing bitcoin, only your original private key which are bunch of characters can wake the wallet up.

hot= on-chain storage, categorized into custodial(like a bank, you don’t own the key to the safe), and non-custodial (like a safe stored in a public served repository, you have your own key to your coins)
