During the last ten days of Ramadan many men choose to spend the night praying (Salat or Dua’(supplication)) and mentioning God (by reading the Quran or Tasbih), particularly try to get the reward of the night of Al-Qadr (Decree). In the following some Hadiths (sayings of prophet Mohamed peace be upon him) in regards and Surah Al-Qadr:
Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to observe I'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan and say, "Seek Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree) in the odd nights out of the last ten nights of Ramadan."
[Al- Bukhari].
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whosoever performs Qiyam during Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), with Faith and being hopeful of Allah's reward, will have his former sins forgiven."
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Surah Al-Qadr
Verily! We have sent it (this Quran) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree)
And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is?
The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, (i.e. 83 years and 4 months).
Therein descend the angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] by Allah's Permission with all Decrees,
Peace! (All that night, there is Peace and Goodness from Allah to His believing servants) until the appearance of dawn.
There are times when the heavens doors are opened so the prayers (supplications) are granted. That includes the night of Al-Qadr that is the night when the angels write our fate for the upcoming year and if our prayers are granted, they can update our fate (the destiny is already written with all the possible changes because of supplications in a book that is protected (The Preserved Tablet), the angels though write down each one’s destiny as ordered by God. I would like to mention that if a supplication of a good person is not granted during this life and the person reacts patiently, the reward will be given in the Hereafter in a way that exceeds what was ever wished for).
