I ran custom ROMs on Android for over a decade, from 2010 to 2021. Sometimes it's nice to have a phone that just works without hassle and things breaking. I don't miss custom ROMs. GrapheneOS is nice, but the layer of complexity is too time consuming for me now. Maybe some day I'll go back.

I trade UI, UX, and iMessage *subjective* upside for closed source downside, for example. That is a trade off to me.
