if you want to see the power of nostr first hand, take your private key (nsec) and use it to login to another client. seeing all of your content, your follows, your followers, and your entire social graph all come with you on this newly installed app is an eye opening super power.
Discussion
Meanwhile some apps have feature I like, that others are missing.
PS the experience of interacting with this protocol is entirely different on other clients, so it doesn’t feel like you’re “starting over”
Not all clients will support all features. It's just not going to happen. It's why we have a diversity of clients and devs.
I’ve done this , an it’s weird non of the apps align with eachother. Some show some notifications, some zaps , some likes , some comments, some dms, some followers , some my profile won’t upload , ect. I can’t seem to figure it out. 🥲
Yeap, I noticed this, kinda funny, I do believe is because of how differently evey client acts with relays and also with different Nips
Except you might have your follow and mute lists completely screwed up... Heh.
But it is cool and will improve.
Yes, this happens sometimes. It's good to have a backup from metadata.nostr.com. as you said, it will get better.
I wish I wouldn't paste my nsec everywhere
https://nsec.app helps solve this problem
So someone stores my keys?
It’s stored encrypted in the browser. Watch this if you want to understand how it works.
Hmm. Storing keys in the browser sounds like not the save to do
It’s encrypted with a password you choose. Just choose a strong password.
Yes. Now think about how many normies will gonna use it.😅
People are used to usernames and passwords. This is essentially the same thing though. A nostr address and a password.
Hopefully a lot. The UX is already pretty good with the Nostr Login widget.
Use your npub
It’s especially fun to try out stuff like https://satcom.app. I recommend using https://nsec.app to login if you try it out.
Is that a good thing ? I need to escape from my content 😂
