What things annoy you about podcasts while your listening or watching?

Contemplating starting a podcast (queue eye roll 🤣) next year... as research I'm noting down things which annoy me about podcasts I listen too.

So far I've got

opening conversation has no context and I get annoyed and bored and click away.

Ads right at the beginning before I'm interested.... bye....

Long intros.... just get to the meat of it please.

People talking over eachother....

What else annoys you?

Unedited podcast where people laugh for 20 minutes without having said anything. 😂

It’s cool, I like to laugh with them but I just don’t have the time

Would a good podcasts host wrangle them back into some shape and get the audience engaged again?

The 30second skip button gets abused when I’m listening to pods.

Personal backstories 💤 like we haven’t heard your story a million times already

Could turn it into an episode on backstory and just refer people to that. Extra clicks and no repetition perhaps.

I have a feeling others may like that though. I just come for the info

Me too ✋️

Depends on the subject. Same guests over and over. It’s like the host is just going for the biggest names to get the most views but not asking anything new. No one does research into finding interesting people with things to say.

I hadn't thought of those points. Nice.

Bad audio quality:

- echos

- background noises

- treble only (recorded with bluetooth or similar low quality devices; e.g. Airpod pros)

The rest can be skipped over by audio controls. If the audio quality is bad you cannot listen to it at 2-3.5x speed and then its no go.

Good tips thanks... I'll need to study up on decent audio tech. Any suggestions? New to this aspect.

My podcast gripes:

#1 top gripe - music playing over speaking!!! Not just annoying but often winds me up and is very distracting, especially when it's usually on a repetitive loop, but also bad for hearing impaired people. It bad enough without the music. The music renders it completely inaccessible. Some podcasters play very loud music over the speaking, making it difficult to hear, so I just switch off.

#2 Too long - cut out the meandering. I know people want theirs to be chatty and friendly but don't have time for 1 to 2 hour long podcasts with lots of pointless chitchat.

#3 Guest interviews - let them talk (unless it's a mutual conversation style).

#4 Bad quality audio
