I've been procrastinating on firing up the node. Got the hardware all set up, though. Maybe a dumb question, but what are some rudimentary cybersecurity measures I need to take? I'm a bit concerned that running a full node on my home connection is like the digital version of putting a neon "$" sign on my front door. Like I know how to keep my actual assets safe, but it would invite people to F with me regardless. Is this notion just FUD talking to me or something that I need to act on?

You concerned about your ISP data limits? Whats your setup?

I run node on my Mac most of the time, had to pay more for unlimited data.

Just planning to run on a raspi using raspiblitz. It looks like they have a tor option, so that's cool. Though looking at the Clark moody dashboard they make a distinction between "reachable" and "tor" nodes. Does "reachable" only apply to clear net nodes?

No worries with ISP limits.

For now, I have no intent to use the node for transacting, but rather just validating transactions and generally getting more familiar with the workings of Bitcoin. So perhaps I'm being overly cautious?

Nah, I’d say it’s good to learn and figure out what your comfortable with. About the nodes:

A reachable node on the bitcoin blockchain is one that both sends and receives connections from the bitcoin network, while an unreachable node can only make outgoing connections but does not accept incoming connections.

I’m syncing mine. 99% for the moment. I think if you’re a bitcoiner, it’s really cool to think that the network works partially because of your node + privacy & security
