NixOS questions here:

whats the point of having a declarative, reproducible, hassle-free way to ship linux + sauces if noone literally ships linux with his own sauce as a nixos config(?).

2 options:

1) All you dev/geek guys are larping about nixos and noone really uses it.

2) The dead internet is hiding from me the secret repo of all the (actually working) .nix files to deploy a sane minimal home machine.

Should I leave this nixos histeria, or is there something I'm missing here? Are there any diamonds if I'd dig a bit more?

Thank you, #gm #pv 🤓

Remember: "The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100 percent." - Arnold Schwarzenegger

agree, todays workout will be crazy fr

Using NixOS is like working at a restaurant as a dishwasher, and then stopping at a friend's house on the way home to ask if they have any dishes you can do, finally arriving home when your family finishes dinner so you can do the dishes.

You've gotta be obsessed with the work

agree, but I dont know if you have dissuaded or convinced me to keep trying to make it work

It seems kinda pointless to me because we don't even have consumer electronics with basic security at any level, so anyone with the dev skill and time to use NixOS should be working on the software element of that instead of wasting time on a super complicated toy

good points👍

There's no good OS to recommend to idiot friends, so you should at least have a "least bad" OS you can tell idiot friends you use

With NixOS you're either recommending a bad OS people can't handle using, or a bad OS you don't use because you're busy with NixOS

Or recommending no OS, telling people they shouldn't use a computer if they can't code

I can tell you from my experience using NixOS as my desktop OS, that the distro is both pretty good and a big pain in the ass at the same time... Oh and by the way, sometimes the documentation sucks, to the point of finding myself diggin in the source nix files that the docs are refering to.
