My late uncle was a Carmelite, not discalced. We would regularly visit their headquarters in Darien, IL when he would visit from FL.
I was actually preparing to discern holy orders with the Carmelites when I met my husband.
Ohh I have actually briefly visited this #Catholic monastery before and I wanted to join but alas I was compelled by Christ to convert to #Orthodox instead. I still have a lot of love for the Carmelites in particular though #realnuns π€ https://youtu.be/OVNsNs58v0o

Thatβs beautiful. What do you mean holy orders? You were discerning ordination?
Holy orders...Taking vows to be a nun for a woman. Entering the diaconate or seminary for a man.
So I was almost a nun.
Monastics do not receive the sacrament of holy orders. That is only deacons, priests, and bishops. Taking vows to be a monastic is unrelated to the sacrament of holy orders. The sacrament of holy orders is also not necessary to enter seminary programs.
