I really feel for the people who got laid off from #swan. I was laid off from Voltage about 9 months ago, with a small group of others, in an already small company.

I tried desperately to get another software job at a #bitcoin business, but it is a numbers game stacked against you, particularly because they are remote roles, hundreds of talented people applying for these dream roles. I don't doubt most of them are in it for the bitcoin mission.

Of my small group of fellow co-workers laid off, besides me, all of them stuck through it and found bitcoin jobs. And it is sad that most/all of them have been laid off a second time from bitcoin companies, some from swan, some others.

Now probably the biggest bitcoin/#notcrypto company which was appetizing to idealogical bitcoiners has also done layoffs. They laid off some of the best. Better than me I'd guess 😉

The market for getting a bitcoin job is now even more difficult.

On the other hand, my path was different. I decided to create my own bitcoin adjacent bitcoin company, LightningSpore, because I had the flexibility, and desire to see if I could make it work.

The one benefit I see to this layoff is I hope it seeds the waters with quality talent for many new small businesses to grow. I also hope that some people just go get normie jobs, and have an opportunity to continue stacking sats. A bitcoin job isn't always what it is cracked up to be, sometimes just doing bitcoin for fun is far more meaningful. It is hard to make bitcoin business profitable, and along the way, it often causes you to lose sight of what we are really here for.
