Christianity must be one of the few cases where it was the Romans' values and customs being profoundly changed by an external force instead of the other way around.

I like consistency. There is also a beautiful amoralism to polytheism that is more like the reality I know.

If we view Christianity as a degraded form of Greco-Romanism, and Greco-Romanism a degraded form of the original Proto-Indo-European faith (PIEF), then it all sort of makes sense...
