I know 0 songs. I just practice technique and write my own but I'm changing that.

I've played lots of songs but I "know" precisely zero too. I can't remember anything, even if I played it 10 minutes ago. I have to have the chord chart or sheet music in front of me. In one ear, out the other, getting old I guess.

Songs I would like to have stuck in my mental ROM...

1. Stuck in the Middle with You - Steelers Wheel

2. Love will tear us apart - Joy Division

3. Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles

#2 is a great one and something I bet I could figure out by ear.

I’m having a bit of an identity crisis, I guess. Since my late 40s I listen to exclusively metal music and I mean really extreme.

But Joy Division, The Smiths, Echo and the Bunniemen, The Psychedelic Furs are in my soul.

I guess I’m more concentrating on licks. Even if a lesson is essentially an excercise I make it a lick by interspersing chords and essentially “signify” it.

THey say, don’t learn a song until you can hum it or replay it in your head. That’s step one.

Awesome, I've got a collection of ~400 songs in my media library that I just play when I'm out walking the dog or doing stuff around the house. It's mostly hard rock from the 80's and 90's and a few classics from the 60's and 70's. I'm trying to expand and explore my musical horizons but most things I find on Spotify etc just leave me cold (especially if they came out after 2000).

If you've got any suggestions for some metal bands I'd love to hear them.

Joined the Modern Metal Academy run by John from the band Monuments. Very fast aggressive progressive metal. Changing things up from my usual Satanic Black Metal. I think I played guitar 14 hours last week .. LOL.
