Reposting the text of my note of apology to #[0] for visibility.

Will, again, sorry for the earlier note, I didn’t mean to belittle all the work you have done. It was poorly worded.

Text of the apology note:

“My frustration wasn’t targeted at your work, Will. I’ve been using your app since the very beginning. It’s the only app I use, basically. I’m also planning to be a Damus Purple subscriber when it comes out. I was just fed up with the mega threads blocking all important notifications. Apologies for the rant—it wasn’t meant for you at all, even though it sounded like it was ⚡️🤙”

Maybe if we can find a way integrate a small fee to a notification then a few things would happen.

Less spam because it’s costs to engage.

You’d be paid for each time you were spammed. Getting paid for your time in a since.

Better engagement between users because it comes with a cost.

Possibly, probably. Perhaps certain free interactions like a 🤙 shouldn’t get a notification.

Variable costs to engage(receive notifications) controled by creators is a thought as well.

I of course have no idea how to actually build this or how difficult that would be. 🧡 for the devs for everything that have done and are doing. Just sharing my thoughts.

I heard that Lightning, internally within the network, can define down to .001 satoshi. 1/1000th of a sat.

If we could harness that resolution

If we could charge "sub sat" levels when assessing fees, the thought might become more acceptable. You are paying, but nothing to speak of. Maybe a tenth of a sat.

See, the problem for me would be is paying a sat for a notification that I had been zapped 1 sat!

I actually get 1 sat zaps from time to time. I like them.

Love this thought! The barrier to entry with these micro charges should be able to be as low as possible.

My main issue is spam shouldn’t be free. It seems like an issue that has a solution utilizing Bitcoin in one form or another

If you could knock down 90% of the spam w/ a fee, I think that's the fee you need to charge. Might have to experiment for a few months to find the pain points.

It would be a growing pain for users who are use to zero cost engagements, but I believe it ultimately is a net good because it changes our behavior due to a physical cost tied to our actions. It will pay to be a good actor and hurt to be a bad actor.

You are in a way using Bitcoin to protect and moderate your experience with others. They are doing the same.

Also I believe this is core of what Lowery was talking about. I know he gets a lot of hate, but I believe this is the way forward. Not the right or wrong way. It’s just the way that will happen.

Again, just my thoughts. I could be 100% wrong and off base due to my lack of knowledge.
