#AskNostr
nostr:npub1vm2yasykvnuu3uhu6w45wnwd6p3lyv2q3kn6k3j98jptg0dxl76q8xuh2l People. I’m here for fun, not some longness.
Fun as in?
Focused on people 🫂
How Come? Whats the appeal?
Thank you for asking🙏🏼 I think it’s more that I am interested in people including the topics they’re talking about!
I want to share love, sending good energy to people that write something about their hard times, we live in such a shitshow and community is making each individual stronger 🫂 I am a people person, I am interested in how others feel and why + what they do and think. 🫂 I have a variety of people and interests on my timeline, including people with different opinions and topics than me.
That makes sense. A good mix adds variety
Topic. People get boring too fast. Even on nostr I find this to be a problem. I've never used twitter or anything like that. Amethyst is my first time actively using social media and even I've noticed this issue. Bitcoin this and Bitcoin that! 🙄 Talk about something different. Something controversial. Try to learn something!
Fucking. Exactly. Do you think maybe it's because most social media users are, well, kids? Or course there are older people who like people focused Social media, but I feel like being obsessed with yourself is kind of a young person thing.
I feel like most older people seek wisdom, a connection with other people, conversations and to learn things and also to find answers to their questions.
Even though Reddit is Gay lol it's also a good tool. Like for me, I'm a topic and category type of person. I don't care what you had for breakfast or what you're wearing right now that doesn't mean anything.
That doesn't provide me any kind of knowledge or anything useful.
I want to talk about things that are interesting to me and things I can gain knowledge from.
What kind of controversial stuff do you like talking about? The reason why I don't ask that many controversial questions is because I want to actually keep up with what people comment to my post and not just let it go into the void. I don't want to ignore anyone do you know what I mean?
On here of course it's mostly Bitcoin but it's also video games, computer systems like Linux and Ubuntu, politics and people posting about what they bought at the store or some dumb shit. That just feels so empty and like a waste of time for me to look at.
I'm not saying that I'm the bee's knees or anything but I also don't want to be pessimistic but I kind of am feeling that way about communities. I feel like they're being ignored because most people aren't interested in that. And quite frankly it's really annoying sorry that's just how I feel.
I'm not entirely sure if it's because they're mostly youngsters, because I've met some VERY intelligent young people. They too seem bored by social media. Although, keep in mind that this is a very rare occurrence.
I feel the same way when it comes to controversial topics. Most people have become too scared to discuss topics that are deemed as such. But, here's the thing, controversial topics are often viewed as problematic by the vast majority, and most people don't wish to solve problems, they wish to ignore them. But that's not how you fix problems. They NEED to be discussed. When it comes to controversial topics, there is one in particular that I am always pondering: national borders. Nikola Tesla always believed that world peace will only be achieved through the deletion of such barriers. Personally, I believe the same. When you consider the vastness of the world, national borders seem quite ridiculous. They always lead to a sense of nationalism, racism, hatred, and many other forms of conflict. Many of these issues are the cause of the global issues we're experiencing right now.
The removal of borders means nation-states can't keep their tax slaves under control. They could just move to a place where they agree with how their tax dollars are spent. It will never voluntarily happen 😕
Oh, I wasn't trying to suggest that it will. But, I do believe that Tesla's philosophy on this matter is spot on.
I haven't read about it from Tesla's perspective. That's probably an idea I came up with reading anarchist literature and studying conflicts.
This is where I first heard about his perspective on this matter. More of a journal, not a book. Still a great read, though.

interesting
"merely machines will meet in a contest without blood shed, the nation's being simply interested, ambitious spectators. When this happy condition is realized, peace will be assured."
Nikola Tesla
I also think there's value in just talking about shit without feeling like we're trying to solve it here on the internet. It's good to discuss things, get different points of view, I just wish people would stop feeling like like they have to be activists about everything.
I guess I'm tired of being preached at. It's the difference between discussing the ways in which people cook their food, as opposed to being told how food should be cooked by someone.
I agree. Gaining perspective is very important when trying to solve issues. You don't need to tell people how to do something all the time, but understanding how others do the same thing can assist in the creation of better solutions.
Yes, and you need to accept that you may be wrong. You can discover this by discussing and exploring ideas, trying to convince others of what you already believe makes you closed off.
People act like whatever has been planted in their heads is the absolute truth. There is no absolute truth.
Agreed. But... and I need to be blunt about this, most people are too damn scared to step out of their comfort zone to accept any other "truth". This is why I can't bring myself to follow any particular religion. In other words, "normies" WANT to be controlled. They like it. That way they don't have to think for themselves.
Most people are cowards and even they can't bring themselves to admit it. The sad truth. 🤷♂️
Yeah that's true I agree it makes me think of all the people on the right alternative sub. Like I thought everybody wanted free speech but most people on the road at alternative sub want I rented alternative that's more restrictive and sensors ship happy
It's like in that Russian sleep experiment creepypasta, “We no longer want to be freed.”
(don't read this before bed btw lol)
It's like in 1984, "But the proles, if only they could somehow become conscious of their own strength. would have no need to conspire. They needed only to rise up and shake themselves like a horse shaking off flies. If they chose they could blow the Party to pieces tomorrow morning. Surely sooner or later it must occur to them to do it?"
The "proles" never rise up against anything.
Yeah the realisation that it's possible that most people simply want to be controlled and absolved of any moral responsibility for their actions is a scary one. Covid times scared me. Not covid... The way people mindlessly complied.
"Covid times scared me. Not covid... The way people mindlessly complied."
This part right here. The fact that so many people are still adhering to mask requirements is somewhat unnerving. There are countless other issues, as well. But, that's a big one.
In NZ there were some leaked government conversations where they admitted that keeping masks going for so long was just a flex, it remind people that COVID's a thing.
Oh yeah the rise of activists is why we can't have an interesting society 😕
They drive me mad
That's a good Observation. I do feel less Stressed When using nostr in Comparison to Reddit
I've never even used Reddit. How is it?
Honestly I like it. BUT you have to mind your tounge and manners or you'll get banned. So I don't ask questions much unless they have nothing to do with politics.
The leftist there will start shit with you hoping you go off so they can report you and get you banned. Don't fall for it. Ignore them.
Other then that it's WAAAAY different from here.
You can follow people on reddit, but most people aren't focused on that. There DMs, group chats and of course subreddits.
You should check it out. It'll give you balance for your need for discussion and then the well not so much discussion nostr has.
My favorite subs are, roast me, shittyaskreddit, askmen, 90s nostalgia, AskOuija, and there's even a nostr community.
The most popular subreddits are: ask reddit, am I the asshole, relationship advice, antiwork, explain like I'm five, no stupid questions, too afraid to ask, and a bunch more
I sort by new. But here is my home feed.
Just stay away from rage bait and politics is my advice. You just can't do it there. You're out numbered and mods are assholes
Can you tell how that is more interesting compared to the nostr feed?

I always accidentally say something and get global banned, last time it was for defending Tucker Carlson when they were calling him a NAZI in a Christian subreddit, which is the last place you’d expect that, but it’s Reddit.
That's fucking retarded, these people are insufferable.
fucking wow. I don't even bother getting into it with those people. I just see that shit as bait now. Like you're not going to bait me dude you can bitch online and talk shit on the internet but you wouldn't say that shit to anyone's face
very good point. How come you don't post some controversial topics. Maybe one to test the waters
I enjoy a mix of both. People is light interactions. Topics can get involved and take my whole day and I'd rather be learning something new on my own.
Thats good perspective. It's why I haven't been on reddit lately. It's time consuming.
But I actually feel like I'm helping though when I'm knowledgeable in a certain sub
I used to be more on board with people focused but I've grown tired of seeing the same shit over and over again. Topic focused makes it so much easier to filter and compartmentalize the feed.
Totally agree. It sucks I really wish nostr had more engagement topic wise
My disinterest in people focused social fell off after leaving Twitter. When I was on there my feed was always full of things and people that interested me. On here and on the fediverse it's just so much politics, nagging, and crackpot bullshit.
