How far out of the city did you need to go to avoid light pollution? (Real human induced environmental problem)

Why don't we shut down electricity at night in cities? Fear of the dark? When was that induced? Or just bourgeoisie? nostr:nevent1qqs9su5zq3gj5cw7sg6llxmwpzcd4xn20kgcvxj098fyrpltan4960czyp72vm2pv6ck749pdp5pjxapccux49mxyn6xxnecjmvmvaq28zx2x6tm534
This was outer suburbs although in a national park on top of a hill. It is pretty dark there. I actually tried driving another 45 mins further south to see if I could get a better view somewhere darker but it was clouded over and I couldn’t see anything so got back in the car and drove back home..
Those hills are amazing. If Adelaide were settled 3 or 400 years ago it would probably be 10 million people today, incredible geography for a city. The Poms really knew what they were doing even 200 years ago.
