Is there a reason why everything is a chatroom and ephemeral chat? Is it something to with obligations to moderate and online safety laws?

Or perhaps there is not much interest in forums as a format? #asknostr

(except for my interest lol)

I like forums people don't understand how it's a great way to discuss shit. Their just all newgens on instant messaging chats flying up it will never get better! Speaking of forums help me find vbulletin stuff now that the company is bellied up & the softwares abandoned?

I think there's quite a lot of older people / devs on nostr who grew up with forums tho.

I mean forums are still going strong within niche communities. They never went away!

Only game companies keep them alive still paying for IPS. Very few like ggg using a heavily modified phpbb forum. I would keep forums alive if I had free hosting. I was always a fan of the addon to get points on posts & use them in the forum shop. Making badges to display in profile & mini stats.

That's not true, there are plenty of small forums which never stopped.

They usually ask members to donate.

What do you think of Zulip? It's advertised as a chat but it's a forum in a different UX.?

zulipchat.com

Never heard of it. Will look properly when back home:)

Had a quick look, looks a bit like discord.

I think there's pretty much no need to improve the UI of a bulletin board tbh

Did you actually use it? The site & app have different looks. But yeah ui similar channels left forun topics on right. The channels being the forums & you create topic name. Different it is!

If it's a bluetooth mesh then there can only be ephemeral chats

It's not Bluetooth is over nostr

Now. But the initial idea was mesh networks and that's still the interesting part. We already have nostr

Nostr is not a forum.

Just create a forum nostr client

I don't know howwwwww

😂😂 ok that's fair. Vibe code like everybody else?

nostalgia maybe. lots of 'like the old days' type of reactions

It's easier to just have X days or lines of messages. Easier database and continuity management. Less prone to privacy compromises if something is leaked.

Forums are great, but they are better for more public and permanent discussions.

Mimics human conversation, so it's easier to "understand."
