It doesn't work like that, it depends on the wallet. Many custodial wallets offer zero fee zaps to attract users.
So it's just by chance that I haven't paid any fees that I know of so far?
I would have thought that to be very improbable because of the diversity of wallets everyone uses.
Yes. Then LN's fees are usually calculated percentually, so on small transaction rounding down makes zero.

I believe so. I configured one in the app and even got an individual lightning address for it.
