I’m interested in Gold, don’t chuck me out of the Bitcoin club please 😂
Gold is measured in troy ounces,
Troy ounce: 31.1035 g
Avoirdupois ounce (modern ounces): 28.3495 g
They standardised weights at the French market town of Troyes, which was a major European trading hub in the 12th–13th century. The “ounce of Troyes” stuck for gold and silver, long after everything else moved on.
Avoirdupois comes from Old French: “aveir de peis” → literally “goods of weight.”
Riiiiight.. can we just call an ounce 30 grams and move tf on please?
