I’m all for optimism and the benefits of technology.

But humans are humans, no matter how the material world is rearranged and reshuffled.

How will a compulsive gambler, that gets rid of every penny that comes into his possession, live in abundance?

Will he be forced to live in abundance?

What about all the people who take a vow of poverty to focus their lives completely on God?

Robots providing goods means nothing to them. They would give the goods away to the poor.

But what happens to the poor? How can a person give (which is a paramount virtue) if there are no more poor?

What happens to charity?

It disappears?

How is abundance defined?

If a billionaire were to take a day to live a middle-class life, he would feel like he’s in poverty.

But middle-class lives in America consist of an abundance of goods.

So abundance is relative.

Optimism is good.

But human nature is what it is.
