Shortlinks are very unsafe; you never know where they are going to take you. I always stay away from them.

What’s a short link? 😱
Here’s an example: http://lnshort.it/nostr-welcome/
Tony I’m not gonna lie to you, I’m scared to click on it after what iefan said 🥹 but thank you 💜🙏🏽
I would be too 😅
However most people never bother and click whatever pops up on their screen. I’m glad to hear that we’ve got one more conscious internet surfer amongst us.
Hahaha, Tony! 😂 What was the link to? 😱👀🥹
I indeed now have the fear 👀🥹💯

Aw Tony I’m sorry I doubted you 🥹🙏🏽😂🫂
click shortlink -> takes you to a landing page that confirms the content behind the link -> click “continue to page” to confirm
slower, but then you’d know
I wonder what nostr:npub1alpha9l6f7kk08jxfdaxrpqqnd7vwcz6e6cvtattgexjhxr2vrcqk86dsn thinks, and what he thinks of this idea? 🤔
Jingles has done absolutely amazing job with his service. Linkshorters are Inherently unsafe.
Example shorten link:
Link preview (like doing a curl and get page meta):
That will solve a lot of problems.
W3.do short links are 301 redirect.
No surprises to redirect you to site you don’t expect, as even those “links previews” can show up the actual site’s meta data.
Like all links on internet, it’s user responsibility to keep themselves safe.
Is there a way to make them reliable & not scary?
but, w3.do? no?
understandable, but I'm guilty of doing it a few times.
we do trust a lot of download links and such here.... trying new clients, etc ..
True. And one person sees all the links being shortened.
