It wouldn't take ZBD much to implement that would it? Encrypted back ups to a known remote storage solution.

One thing which has puzzled me is why they're so slow to open it up when you can just make a new npub in seconds on any other client - what's holding them up from just opening it up?

Business. Their users are walled in, their users are the product for their business to make money. But hey they have a window to look out of and talk to us on the outside 🙄

I would wager they never open nsec usage for their users.

Probably not, but the cost of creating a new one is trivial, so if anyone using ZBD cares they can always run a parallel account on another client with a different nsec they control - one for gaming, one for social, maybe one for work...

This is true except a little more complicated if their social interactions are tied to the games played in the zbd ecosystem . Its totally up to them to do this business model and use it with nostr. But they are rightfully being called out for fawning like freedom tech advocates then building this.

Fair, but if they're putting nostr in front of other people that wouldn't normally be exposed to it, same as they're doing with bitcoin, then we may as well take the opportunity.

Personally I don't think it'd be that hard for them to run some simple explainer videos for their users who are curious, and show good faith by linking to other great nostr based services beyond social.

Absolutely. It is a roll with the punches situation as none of it can be stopped.

It'd seem a bit daft to give them a window to us lot if they were concerned about building a walled garden
