Some Japanese supermarket carts unlock when you insert a coin first.

If you return the cart to its original place, the coins will be returned, so everyone must return the cart to the same place.

Yer I don’t bother I just leave it where it is so someone else gets to keep the coin. Paying it forward

Paying it forward!

Essentially giving someone money for doing the service of returning my trolley. I don’t mind. Homeless people, kids etc scour the parking lot to gather them up.

We had these here in Australia too. Some supermarkets may still have them but they aren’t as common as they used to be.

Thats normal here. but there are also free plastic coins to use there.
