I keep an old phone plugged in adn on WiFi for such instances...not the perfect solution, but works for me.

yeah - next time I get a phone I'm going to keep my old one around for this very reason
I typically keep a phone until the battery won't hold a charge (so not worth anything for a trade-in) and consequently have a few laying around.
