Good times create weak men because there is a lack of struggle, of purpose, of striving and falling short.

The only cure I can see is to propagate a culture where even, and especially, when times are good, we must work harder to realize our own individual potential instead of engaging in parasitism.

With enough people taking responsibility for their own lives, maybe the next saeculum's hard times will blunted.

It sucks that without adversity to drive us, by default we let stuff go to hell in a handbasket.

The idea of culture is good, but I feel that focusing on individual potential is pretty much what the western world has done, still leading us to where we are today

I actually agree with you. One of the most damning failures of Western culture IMO has been the emphasis on the individual to the exclusion of family and community.

I believe personal responsibility is the keystone, and that your growth as a person should encompass the value you provide to your family and the people around you. Not the everyone-for-themselves free for all we see today.
