Society has taught us that sacrifice is a virtue; that a man or woman’s worth it directly correlated to how much they can suffer.

Ooof. That hit
Articulated very well.
No pain, no gain eh?
That’s more along the lines of delayed gratification which is not actually suffering. You’re actually bettering yourself which hardly suffering. It may feel like temporary suffering, but in the end it’s the opposite.
I feel like this is hitting on something yet is slightly off. I just can’t put my finger on why/how it’s off though. Having low time preference and delayed gratification for some later, better thing can be a virtue. Maybe it’s that we are sacrificing for the wrong things?
Delayed gratification is not a sacrifice. It’s actually quite the opposite. Delayed gratification if forgoing one thing for something even better.
Sacrifice is suffering for no personal gain, which when I say it like that, sounds absolutely ridiculous!

It’s the give a man a fish/teach a man to fish thing.
