It’s interesting the anti-censorship dynamics with nostr, because in some ways old stuff is hard to find. I wanted to go find the original post announcing Nostrica and the way relays get recent messages, it’s not readily apparent how to find old messages. Is that good or bad? I’m not sure.

That’s a problem.

Search needs to be greatly improved.

How does it get improved? Should we start an nostr.archive project?

So far not been an issue I’ve dealt with. Minimal posting and moving client to client. Message’s is where I find issues. Generally cross client messages.

In SSB it becomes normal that your know you’re just getting a very subjective social xp, but with Nostr the potential is much wider. Search ux so often neglected in non-search centered products.

wish it was intentional… I post to x relay and pay to keep it for ever… I post to y relay to delete in 30 days and it doesn’t get rebroadcast to x relay and get saved for ever… I could run up my own relay, and sacrifice reach of some content to be able to delete and edit.

happy for someone to internet archive that stuff, but it would no longer be signed where it was intended to be signed.

We could work with the internet archive to store the messages. A write only relay.

Write only read only doesn’t matter if clients turn around and rewrite everything I interact with to any open write only relay.

I want to sacrifice reach for ownership and self hosting sometimes. Maybe even put up a paywall for some content.

signing doesn’t feel like I own the content if I can’t say… I don’t want it on x relay.

I think we need the ability to do permissioned access to messages and also private groups.

btw, any suggestion for a good invite code to try with manyverse?

I joined a random room I googled, but the way planetary allowed me to search, interact, and find some peoples was far more preferable.

Complètement avec votre avis merci

This search filter NIP can help. Only a few relays I know of support it. https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/50.md

I think clients should cache/index your own events better. My whole 3,500 event history is 3.5kB. Don’t even need to search a remote server. It’s also a poor man’s backup source then.

A definitely see long term retrieval services/relays existing.
