I’m getting old fediverse vibes on this. nostr:note154vjzuuhthkelqm2j4ew4zc35lske6mxgexkd4gtyutr7lcrn5kqqlv4gp

How ? I know its centralized with uploads.

Decentralized social does depend on some centralization to get started with discovering peers and relays

Relays could behave like Fedi admins I suppose. Can relay ops decide to one day mute individuals? They can do so with spam right?

I tried talking about this alot and relays can manually whitelist or blacklist. They think its a good idea for some reason for relays to be a free4all

Relays are basically a .txt file that anyone can add text to

What would be a better idea?

Nostr will find out the hard way that Mastodon/Fediverse are doing it right regarding relays/instances and managing uploads. They just need that Nostr auth piece to be perfect.

If you rely on only one yes, but if ten it's harder that all ten will collaborate to mute, but if you have your own and rely on others that you know and trust then the risk is to live inside some bubble, there won't be censorship but transmitting and receiving notes from outside the bubble may be a problem.

The fact that it is possible is what it can become. There is a responsibility and liability involved which I can understand.

This is a bruteforcing approach and it will never scale, it's wrong. With better clients people can easily be on small or personal relays and still not be at any risk.

I see, thanks

What’s the key requirements for “better clients?”

If you are following someone the client has to (somehow) get the posts from that person and display them to you.

🤝

Yes, they can and it's expected that they do.

I was talking to someone on here yesterday about the fact I could see some replies on the Damus iOS app but not in Primal despite the relays I have configured being identical.

I wonder if we'll eventually get to a point where there are relay aggregators where you can go and add your relay to a "master relay" so that someone only has to add one relay to get access to tons of them at once.

The aggregator would still be still run by a person who also controls it. It might also be some filtering on Primal’s side. Not sure really.

Primal is sketchy. Has been from the beginning. Very unpopular to say.

I’ve heard the same as well. I’m fuzzy on the specifics.

Actually if I’m going to say that I should specify…

I don’t think there is anything necessarily wrong with the client. From personal experience and on a gut level I feel that team lack’s integrity, and will take the easy route…seeing what they can get away with. So just a personal thing.
