I noticed and wondered about the flag... Can you elaborate on its meaning?

"...and to the Republic for which it stands..." is our USA.
But shrewd men discovered a wrinkle in the Constitution and they exploited it.
Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17 gives Congress permission to make another government within our nation, and they chose a democracy.
America isn't either a Republic or a democracy. We have both, and which of those that legally applies to you depends whether you identify as a state Citizen or naturalize yourself as a Federal citizen (aka the euphemism U.S. citizen).

The UCC citations made in the article are out of date. We now have UCC 1-308 "Without Prejudice". But otherwise, this article is scarce precious education.
Anyhow, when you see the American flag with the golden fringe on display, you are within the statutory democracy. No golden fringe is the original Republic.
