Did you know that the first computer bug was a literal bug? 🪰

In 1947, engineers working on the Harvard Mark II computer discovered a malfunction that they traced to a moth stuck in a relay.

After removing it from the machine, Dr. Grace Hopper taped it into the team’s logbook, recording the note: “First actual case of bug being found.”

This logbook can be seen at the Smithsonian. A legend in early computer science, Grace was also one of the inventors of COBOL.

(Sorry, Daniel. I had to.)

Doesn't that sentence imply that they were already calling bugs bugs?

I was thinking the same

So many strong women in computer science!!
