Earlier this year the science museum I also volunteer for returned a sarcophagus that had been looted, smuggled and then in 2013 had been on long term loan to the museum. There’s a lot to criticize about this museum (See: the president leveraging his position to fund a professional softball team, the energy hall funded by Oil & Gas companies, etc) but they’ve always done a fairly decent job of not displaying contested pieces (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/03/us-museum-returns-looted-ancient-sarcophagus-to-egypt)
