The Series 1 was introduced in 1998 and remained in production until 2005. The Shelby Series 1 was powered by an Oldsmobile Aurora V8 engine, which was modified by Shelby American to produce 320 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. The engine was mated to a six-speed manual transmission, which sent power to the rear wheels. The Series 1 had a top speed of 170 miles per hour and could accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds.

The body was made of carbon fiber and featured a number of aerodynamic elements, including a large front splitter and a rear diffuser. The Series 1 also had a distinctive front grille, which was inspired by the original Shelby Cobra.
