Pools use it** and there is incentives to do so, imho.
Oh there's incentives to do so, but this is one of those cases where miners aren't acting in their best interest. Opting for regular payouts rather than higher payouts when averaged.

Open source mining pools would be more important in my opinion. At least one new large pool, but one that is open source and attractive through transparency.

Agreed. Sv2 is needed to enable this, imho.

I think the relative ease of starting to mine with open source miners and pools will help decentralize the network even further.
