I like the technology but it's like they try to make them ugly
Discussion
You could say that with any modern aspect of society. It's all intentional, done as a visual method of demoralization.
I dunno lol, electric cars are pushed by the system but they are extremely ugly.
They're not just ugly, the charging is incredibly inconvenient to the point where some places are offering battery swaps instead of charging. A lot of people don't realise the fast charging has a significant negative impact on battery lifespan.
I think battery swaps have been a failure so far, it’s not a new idea.
High efficiency hydrogen fuel cells are probably the right course for now, if we could only find a safe efficient way of storing hydrogen…oh! I know! Renewable hydrocarbons! Why didn’t anyone think of that?! 🙄
Another problem is the frosting that happens while refilling in cold locations. I'm bullish on it's future though if that can be solved.
The problem I see is energy density. Sure there is pressure, but who wants to drive a bomb around. No matter how safe they say it is, 10000 psi is 10000 psi, and released too quickly your molecules are going to be scattered to the wind. Crashes are chaotic. I’ve seen kinetic energy do some crazy stuff.
They have performed tests firing a 50 cal bullet into the fuel cells. They're practically built like an aeroplanes black box. You'll be disintegrated by the crash before they get damaged.
I’ll see if I can find some tests. Interesting. It’s still relatively low energy density compared to diesel though. Electric makes great sense for metropolitan transport, for freight and distances though renewable diesel is the ticket IMO.
