I think there's an element of Gen X that is more traditional and somehow harkens back to prior to the 1960s cultural transformation (ie their parents were pre-boomers).
The clearest I've seen this division is in the celebrity game show "What's my line?". The late 1950s early 1960s episodes I find charming and civilized, while the 1970s series is not recognizable as the same culture.
