As a parent with kids, the type of school they attend really matters. You want to make sure they're getting positive reinforcement, and it's our responsibility to check in and make sure that's happening. Homeschooling is an option, but it's not for everyone - it's a lot of work!
Being part of an educational system has its benefits, especially for developing social skills. However, there's a lot of room for improvement and I believe we need to re-evaluate the design of our schools. When I was in school, the system was pretty bad, but I enjoyed the people, sports, parties, and challenges.
But looking at my kids' schools here in Switzerland, I see something different. They have classes where kids can share their ideas, the teacher isn't a dictator, and parents are involved in the process. It's a refreshing change from what my wife experienced when she went to school here.
In America, schools are too big and they want to standardize education. It's a difficult topic, but ultimately, we all want what's best for our little beasts.
