Nostr.wine has recently switched to the subscription model. Am I the only one who thinks that it's crazy?

Relays aren't Netflix or some kind of a journal. They help you to get rid of the spam, but I think that it's not enough. They should bring some other ideas, to encourage people paying the subscription

That's supposed to be the point right, to provide value.. I guess if they don't provide anything, no one will pay to use it eventually and it will be empty except for the person who provided no value. The market will decide.

I respectfully disagree. Subscription model is the only one invented so far that allows to keep any service afloat. Devs constantly input resources - be it fiat for paying for the servers or own time to improve the filter/relay performance. As spammers and attackers get better so must the relays.

Free services like google and Facebook are constantly selling your data, that is their way to fund their business, so paying 3 bucks a month for spam filter and ddos fighter is very reasonable imho.

But for now relays have nothing to offer for a subscription. What is the point to pay monthly for nostr.wine if all other payed relays have same features and same users?

nostr.wine hasn’t changed in any way. filter.nostr.wine has moved to a monthly subscription. Filter is absolutely not a β€œnormal” relay and has substantial costs. You can learn more about it here: https://docs.nostr.wine/filter/readme
