In honour of ANZAC day I thought I would post an extract of the ships log of HMS Argus taken on the 10th of November 1942.

The Argus was was an old (very old) aircraft carrier on her way to Malta as part of a convoy, when she was attacked by Stuka's and Torpedo bombers. She also narrowly avoided a submarine torpedo attack. I think this was the same convoy where HMS Eagle (another aircraft carrier) was sunk. This was not the only attack she survived on the journey.

My father was in this ship serving as an able signalman. I guess my brothers and I came pretty close to never being born this day. Makes you appreciate everything these men did.

Extract of the log:

17:00. Enemy aircraft detected by RDF

17:05. Action Stations

17:10. Attacked by dive bombers 1 hit, 4 killed

17:20. Attacked by torpedo bombers

17:45. Secured from action stations

20:28 - 22:22: Several emergency turns

22:22 Near miss by torpedoes
