Agreed. Some people are cut out to be polemicists and run that risk of being burned at the stake. Others are better and chipping away at the margins, and you need both

Yes, we all have controversial views on many things.

The better option is to be highly selective on what hill one chooses to die on.

Pick and choose your battles, and choose wisely.
