To be fair. everyone is allowed to have heroes and be inspired by anything they want.

Also it's less ironic, than it may seem at first. Psychohistory as described is really close to what econometrists dream of. It's basically the thing covered in a shroud of mysticism and packed together with nice sounding words of inevitability, accuracy and so on.

It's exactly the reason, why I loved foundation, yet have never found inspiration in psychohistory. It cannot work, not even theoretically and most certainly cannot be as accurate and reliable as depicted.

I agree it's a perfect fit, ironic that it's something entirely fictional yet mainstream economics is taken seriously.

The narssisistic bit is the logical implication that he is Hari Seldon, the Prophet and hr knows best the Plan to save humanity.
