The simple advice you can give someone is that Bitcoin needs to be distinguished from Altcoins. The winning strategy with the least personal risk is a dollar cost average (DCA) approach, by simply buying monthly the amount you feel comfortable with to loose and are willing to hold longterm (at least 10-15 years).
