Doesn't work if people don't want to admit they're wrong.

I wrote an elaborate report for a serious bug in protocol verification software with minimal reproduction recipe, elaborate description of symptoms and wrong assumptions, etc. All you could wish for to investigate the bug. Not even a response. They're too busy hating me to admit they were wrong. Incidentally, it has the (un)fortunate side-effect of demonstrating that I'm not as stupid as they all want to believe, because I not only found a serious bug but also with a very simple reproduction that requires very little complexity, so that probably hurt too. I gave them plenty of my time in investigation, reproduction, reporting. Not even a response. It's easier to hate, for some people.

That's not even considering the open-source contributions.
