I get the freedom of speech angle, but I've always been a supporter of the American TikTok ban under the premise of reciprocity.

#China prohibits all American social media apps, including all Nostr protocols. This double standard is actually a very common approach taken by China for the expressed purpose of gaining a strategic advantage. A push back on this approach is long overdue.

This actually should have been the primary, if not only, rationale for the TikTok ban in the first place. The whole nonsense of "protecting democracy" and "guarding against foreign influence" is readily viewed as comical if not hypocritical.

I agree - it is hypocritical. America wants exclusive rights to surveil its own citizens while doing the same to China and many others (even our allies). However, IMO, banning TikTok purely for reciprocity would set a dangerous censorship precedent, making us no better than what we criticize.

Funny how once you cross the threshold you become the very thing you want to prevent. Sheesh

I actually agree with you at least philosophically. America has actually become more Chinese in many ways. Ideally going back to a time - and not so long ago - where citizens weren’t viewed as a group to be controlled should be the goal.

How can China prohibit Nostr protocols ?
