I think this is more a cultural thing than a money thing

It is deeply integrated with corruption of the money which had already begun 26 years before this video

🎯

Money influences culture a lot. If suits were affordable, more people would wear them. If you could afford to wear a suit to go shopping then you must have at least 4-5 suits. People nowadays are lucky to own one suit. A lot of them just rent for special occasions.

You can buy a suit off the rack for a couple hundred bucks. It's a cheap suit, but you can. Carhartt hoodies are basically the same price as a cheap suit coat and shirt. I just think it's more likely that people don't wear suits because they don't want to rather than they can't afford to.

I own 4 suits, I don't wear them because I don't like them, not because I can't afford to

Suits and elegant dressed died along with the materials they are generally made of. They are stiff or itchy, difficult to wash in a machine, and must be laid out or hung up to dry and perhaps ironed. Or dry-cleaned. And they need to be properly fit to each person.

Most moderns want thin polyester or cotton knits, for that reason. Wash-wear-tumble-dry, and therefore you need way more items, as they wear out quickly.

i badly miss my old cotton combat pants, made in the 70s or so... modern clothes are so crappy, and have got worse and worse

best items i had in recent years:

https://kitanica.com/collections/pants/products/raider-pants-camo

well, they were much like these... i've owned two pairs similar to this, i want to get them again though the first ones were great the second were meh

but look at the frickin price

and yes, they last well, proper design proper made, second ones were so so but i haven't worn anything as good in a decade

Yes, that's the sticker-shock I sometimes get with my clothes. That's why I have so few items and wear them over and over for years.

Same with my knee-high, lined leather boots. They just completed their fifth winter of being worn nearly every day and for 5-km walks, but they are Austrian and costed nearly €500. 😬

Merino wool is even crazier. Therefore, you don't need to wash it, unless it's underpants, which is nice.

yeah, i have a nice merino thermal top, it's fantastic, i got a matching bottom but the size was wrong and caused me some weird stuff with my leg hairs lol! dammit... i kinda miss those big warehouse sized british adventure stores tho

but nobody makes clothes like kitanica... i will get some, probably, but i'm super reluctant, but again, like you, i'll probably buy two and a bit outfits and that will be all i wear for the next 3 years

but yes, you get 10x the value for 3x the price, it's a no brainer once you've experienced it

Yeah, like in the OP, everyone wore suits because all of their clothes were three suits: work suit, leisure suit, Sunday suit.

i always remember about how Einstein had 7 identical outfits that he wore for almost all of his life

totally relateable... though for me it would be a kitanica pants in the pants department, idk about shirts, never really worn many things that i really loved except this one bespoke fluorescent rave shirt i somehow inherited from someone, i forget how that even happened, but i wore it to death, it was cut just right for me

i remember this was another of those things i really enjoyed about eastern europe, the little stitcher shops everywhere, and bootmakers, repairs and adjustments... never went to one but this is a custom that will come back in the future when international trade dies

I get my boots and shoes repaired. Worth it, when new ones are so expensive.

i want to get my boots custom made... i have many ideas, i'd love to be able to engage a good leatherworker and try out a few designs and the winner i make enough to last me until I'm 70

the clothes too... if i could get that same design like the kitanica but with perfect fitting, again, 15 of them all identical, rest of my life

How do you get rid of the smell?

What smell?

The stinky shoe smell

My shoes don't smell. 🤷‍♀️

Modern clothes live on the fiat standard

and nothing fits, everything looks ugly, and they make everything out of shitty plastic
