August 15, 1971: Richard Nixon suspends “temporarily” the convertibility of dollars to gold.

“Your dollar will be worth just as much tomorrow as it is today.”

52 years later, we know that was a lie.

Your dollar loses purchasing power every year.

“Your dollar will be worth just as much tomorrow as it is today.”

Such a blatant lie.

He was talking about Aug 16, 1971 not the other tomorrows.

he only promised the dollar would hold its value for one day

Imagine this being your legacy

Your dollar from 1971 now can get you a tenth of what it used to, basically regardless of what you're trying to buy. That's what happens if you disregard physical reality when creating a currency: there's nothing to ground it.

52 years ago today. Gee thanks Nixon. wtfhappenedin1971.com

The dollar is worth what it has always been worth. You just can't buy as much with it.

“temporarily” 😂 until mass Bitcoinization
