Clean keto can be great, but there is a certain magic to the carnivore diet.

1. Carnivore is an elimination diet and can be great for teasing out food intolerances and sensitivities.

2. It is simple and easy.

3. It can be more affordable than most keto., and as affordable as the average Standard American Diet

4. It is nutritionally dense.

5. It is not a calorie restricted diet.

6. It is easy for most people to shop for and learn to prepare.

7. Minor cheats will stall progress, but for most people they won't derail progress. It's easy to just go back and keep going.

The main things I see people struggle with on carnivore are

1. Not eating fat, and not eating enough food in general, especially early on.

2. Not getting enough electrolytes (mainly a good sea salt, but also magnesium and even potassium in some cases)

3. Not leaning heavy enough to meat from ruminants such as beef.

4. People who have Alpha Gal symptoms are probably going to have to do something different.

5. Some people are sensitive to excessive histamines, an issue that is mostly easily avoidable.

6. Cooking. Some people really don't know how to cook meat. Greasy smashburgers, ribeyes, and YouTube are your friends.

7. Eggs, cheese, and dairy. Many carnivores eat some of these, as do I, but they are common food intolerances. Many carnivores recommend cutting them out for the first three weeks and then adding them in one at a time to see if you react negatively.

With keto, there are a lot more ways to go wrong, and it is a lot more complex to maintain. The advantage is that it allows many, many more foods. And to be fair, Carnivore is one version of a keto diet. Similar diets include BBBE, Lion Diet, ketovore,, low carb/no carb, and, in some cases, paleo.

As I see it, for me, the carnivore diet has been a healing diet for the non-descript maladies of mitochondrial/metabolic breakdown so common to middle age in our society. A low carb diet won't fix everything for everyone, but it is one of the biggest factors most of us can easily control.

Also some of us have family members with multiple sensitivities and restricted diets, and adding one more crazy thing into the mix just isn't realistic. So for me, clean keto just wasn't practical. Carnivore was, and when I make my food, except for butter, eggs, and dairy, it is food I can also share with the entire family.
