Nice! I recently moved one of my Raspiblitz over to an old Thinkpad. Upgraded the electrum to Fulcrum. So much better performance now. Plus got it set up with raid 1. Had issues with fan noise but I played around with Linux fan profiles and got it working pretty silently for now. How are the fans on the Home? Do they offer Fulcrum for the Electrum server? Would highly recommend Fulcrum for people using Whirlpool but the trade off is it doesn't work on raspi as the hardware demands are too high.
Discussion
Fulcrum is not in the Umbrel App Store yet so I'm using Electrs.
Even though the Home has 3 USB-A ports, it doesn't have the option to mirror or extend storage beyond what comes inside the box (2TB).
This has been a commonly requested feature so I think it will be a matter of time before they implement it.
The fan on the Home is super silent. I can't hear it, almost fanless.
In terms of performance, I am noticing 50% reduction in time to sync balance using a mobile wallet (Nunchuk, blue).
I am pretty happy with that๐
Awesome. When you upgrade it makes you realize how limited the raspi is Especially now they are so expensive (relatively) it makes no sense to use them any longer.
I heard Sony is helping make Raspis and they are working to build up inventory so the prices should starting coming back down.
I wasn't doing anything computationally heavy so my experience with the Raspi Umbrel was very good.
My main use case was backend for onchain wallets and managing less than 10 lightning channels.
For that It was very reliable and I had no issues.
If the price comes back down to reasonable levels, I still think it is a good way for people interested in running Bitcoin to get their foot through the door.
The Umbrel Home is great, but it's still 10 man yen so that's a pretty high hurdle if one is just starting out ๐
