I gave it a shot using qemu on Arch. The script ran successfully, and, after reboot, the login manager loads (albeit with a broken image top right of menu bar). But when I attempt to login, I get a “session failed” error.

I’m installing a stock 41 Beta Workstation just to make sure it isn’t something with my qemu setup.

Side note: I did discover this. Pretty slick.

here's how i setup virt-manager (only the apt install command should be different for arch)

https://git.sr.ht/~e33io/reference-wiki/tree/main/item/notes/virt-manager-setup.md

..and make sure to use Virtio for the graphics

one last quick note, i just tested it with current release (40) and it worked fine, so it is for sure a beta-repo issue at the moment

Thanks. I ran into some glitches with Debian, as well, but third time was a charm; Ubuntu Server worked. 😃

for Debian, i run this script first, then the i3 script:

https://git.sr.ht/~e33io/scripts/tree/main/item/deb-post-install-setup.sh

..it let's you pick a bigger tty font and sets up the repo sources list for the contrib and non-free packages.. ..it will also add a swap file if one doesn't exist, and gives the option to update the kernel to the newer backports version.. ..maybe i should add this to beginning of my other Debian post-install scripts as kick-start option ?

Ah ha, I missed that. I'd say so, yes. Would make it fire-and-forget.

Hmm. This didn't work, and I can't find it by note ID.

It’s temperamental, to put it mildly and dependent on client.
