And more generally this seems to have been the strategy:

- provoke palestinians using illegal settlements / bulldozing villages etc

- use any retaliation as a justification to seize more land

- repeat

It can't really fail as long as they have military superiority, and can control US public opinion (which actually is what gives them military superiority so this is all they need)
