Its definitely not the same

A person you follow, maybe a friend, or just someone you enjoy hearing, they are your friend or in your circle through proof of work, you have understood their incentives and let them be a part of your circle, its easy to judge if they have a net positive influence on you. A friend might even have your best interest at heart.

Even if you make a bad judgement you can easily course correct with the unfollow button.

You have no clue what the incentives with a faceless org are, and you have no way to unsubscribe to their manipulation even if you realize you dont like it. Except ofcourse uninstalling the app and losing your entire network.

Control and consent. That's what nostr gives you. But the responsibility is on you.

That is a really good argument. While similar in the need to consent, the crucial difference is in the granularity. The old social media are either all in or completely out. Nostr gives you the freedom of granular choice.
