Discourse is basically pointless. Because most people don't seem to be able to be convinced of anything.

Discourse is very important for undecided people or people with open minds.
People change their minds all the time. Also, having a movement creates enough social pressure to get some followers too.
There is a reason freedom of speech is the most fundamental freedom and the most hated by politicians. It's because words can turn swords onto tyrants.
