i think a lot of people right now are exaggerating on how hard it is to onboard. it’s actually insanely easy, and very much like everything else online.
it’s what happens after onboarding that really makes it a hit or miss. most people will make one or two notes and never come back.
If you define onboarding as entering a name and seeing a feed, sure. But that is not how product design defines onboarding. The ability to discover things that interest you and hopefully make you stick around is also part of that.
I helped my wife create an account. I absolutely failed at finding my own account so she could follow me. And that was the first thing we did after creating an account.
That was embarrassing.

Opened search and typed my username/alias. My account didnt show up. 😅
I see. Yep, this happens all the time and is exactly the type of thing we need to solve at the very minimum.
Also, although it seems helpful but it’s actually confusing, accounts should be identified with 1 things and it must be human readable.
Not npub + name + username + nip-05.
We should pick one and stick with it. And please don’t make it the npub.
Similar to how Twitter just has a handle @karnage for example.
I agree that npub is way too technical looking and looks like gibberish.
Search should find your under your name or nostr address but I think in some clients it’s just slow or randomly doesn’t work at all.

i agree. nostr needs to onboard services for existing/new users. lets see some features.
I started mining vanity keys to onboard my family. My goal is to have everyone follow each other and hopefully create content they find useful. I might have them follow some famous people too.
I hope this makes for a better experience.
